Requirements
for Admission:
Formal
requirements for admission to the Institute's programs are minimal.
These include a minimum age of eighteen years and the holding of
a secondary school graduation credential (high school diploma, school
leaving or matriculation certificate, GCSE, GED, or equivalent qualifications
as determined by one's local or national educational authorities).
In
practice, most of the Institute's students are university graduates
or licensed health care professionals, many of whom hold graduate
or postgraduate qualifications.
Success
as a student (and ultimately, as a practitioner) of ayurveda however
depends little upon one's formal academic history. Rather, it depends
upon three factors of nearly equal import: firstly, self-discipline,
and this is more emphatically the case with students enrolled in
a distance learning format program than otherwise.
Secondly,
success is dependent upon the ability to read analytically, to think
consistently and consequentially, and to express onesself clearly
and concisely in writing.
Lastly,
it is dependent upon a love for healing, an enthusiasm for its study
and a strong motivation for its effective practice.
Thus,
admissions decisions are wholly at the discretion of the Institute's
administration. The ownership or lack of a higher education is neither
an advantage nor a disadvantage to the applicant's prospects for
admission. Motivation, capacity and the prospects for successful
training are the Institute's sole admissions criteria.
Special
Note for Holders of the B.A.M.S. Degree from Institutions in South
Asia:
Individuals
who are graduates of accredited or government-authorized university,
hospital-based or independent professional faculties of ayurvedic
medicine and surgery situated in India, Mauritius, Nepal, Sri Lanka
or Thailand holding the BAMS degree (or higher) and who desire to
undertake the Institute's practitioner training as an orientation
to North American practice are advised to contact the administrative
director for personal consultation and assessment as challenge examinations
are available to such individuals for selected modules of the Diploma
in Ayurveda program.
